Can you tell us a little about yourselves?

I’m Lucy, a designer from Edinburgh, and my husband Kagwe is from Nairobi.  We originally met at the coffee counter at church HTB London.  We wanted a coastal wedding, but it was also very important to us both that the day incorporated elements of both my Scottish heritage and Kagwe’s Kenyan heritage. Our guests would agree that the fusion of cultures worked beautifully.

Why did you choose Watermouth?

The beach and the rugged the coastline were the real selling point, totally stunning! It definitely felt like being at an overseas destination, not the UK.

Kagwe and I had already had a Kenyan wedding, so Watermouth provided the perfect counterbalance in style, and allowed many of our UK friends to be part of our big day.

We also really made the most of the pool area the night before the wedding – our family and friends did a communal pool jump in our Kenyan wedding attire. The pictures were fabulous, and it was such an ice breaker!

Tell us about your wedding aesthetic

We loosely named our vibe ‘Coastal Kenya’. We didn’t really pick a colour palette, just beachy vibes, with light airy fabrics and wild coastal flowers by Fusspots mixed with tropical Kenyan orchids.

As a designer I definitely had a vision in mind for my wedding dress, and naturally, I designed it myself, along with the bridesmaids dresses, and mother of the bride dress. My side of the family embraced their Gaelic heritage and adorned kilts for the ceremony, I even had bagpipes greet me as I arrived for the aisle walk! Kagwe looked very handsome on the day in a luxe Hugo Boss suit.

How did your day go?

The girls and I got ready at a beautiful house my father had rented close to the venue, then we popped to The Glamroom onsite for a few photos. The weather was incredible, so we got the clifftop ceremony we had dreamed of, up at The Viewpoint. Our family provided some beautiful readings during the service, really emotional and meaningful.  The highlight for me was the Keynote Gospel Choir who sang our ceremony music. Everyone was dancing, including the Vicar!

After our sunny drinks reception we moved down to the beach for photos and beach games, followed by a second drinks reception with a fizz wall full of prosecco for our guests, on the terrace.

Our amazing cake was by Lulus Bakery, it was a huge hit with the guests! Special thanks also goes to our incredible videographer, Elise of Outland films – who captured the day perfectly!

Top tip for getting married at watermouth?

Less decor is more! It’s already so beautiful!  We had the best day of our lives – the team made the process so effortless & took all the stress away. The location was stunning, after the ceremony about 20 people said to me it’s the best wedding they had ever been to… we were only 1 hour in!  I think the gospel choir made the ceremony – everyone was dancing, including the Vicar!

Thank you so so much! We love Watermouth!
